Whole Being

200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training

Welcome!

The Whole Being 200-hour teacher training was created to honor yoga as a living tradition that nurtures both individual discovery and collective growth. Rooted in ancient wisdom and enriched by modern understanding, our curriculum explores the foundations of Vinyasa yoga, inspired by the Ashtanga system, while encouraging trainees to trust the body’s innate wisdom. Together, we will cultivate a practice built on inquiry, reflection, and self-awareness, held within a safe and supportive space. Whether your intention is to deepen your own relationship with yoga or to share it with others, this program will empower you to weave its teachings into your practice, your life, and your way of guiding others. I would be honored to walk this path with you.

Program Overview

This training is delivered primarily in person at Bluebird Sky Yoga, with a weekly 3-hour virtual session that includes anatomy lessons and to further support integration between modules. Some in-person sessions will also be recorded so you can revisit the material at your own pace.

All 200 hours are fully scheduled into the program, giving you plenty of time to learn and practice together, develop your own class, and work on your final projects within a supportive community. In addition, there are a few outside commitments: finish creating your final class and submitting it for review, preparing a 15 minute presentation, and completing two required readings. You are also encouraged to maintain a regular yoga practice outside of training days to support your growth.

Each training day includes 20–30 minutes of meditation and breathwork and a 60–90 minute asana class. The remaining hours are a balance of modules and lectures on philosophy, history, asana, sequencing, and professional teaching skills. This rhythm creates a dynamic and engaging learning environment that combines study, practice, and reflection.

This training is led by me, Kate Rivard, as the primary teacher and guide throughout the program. I will be teaching the majority of our sessions, ensuring consistency, depth, and personal connection as we move through the training together. To enrich your experience, we also welcome a few specialty teachers who bring their unique expertise. Their contributions provide a broader perspective and give you the chance to learn from voices with diverse experience and backgrounds.

  • Your presence is an essential part of this training. Full attendance at all scheduled sessions—both in-person and virtual—is required in order to receive your 200-hour certificate. Each day builds on the last, and being fully present allows you to stay engaged with the material, your peers, and your own growth.

We understand that life happens. If an emergency or unavoidable conflict arises, limited make-up options may be available (through recorded sessions, additional assignments, or private lessons). Please communicate with the lead teacher as soon as possible if you anticipate needing to miss any part of the training.

If circumstances prevent you from completing the training, please review the Tuition section for information on our policies.

  • While we spend 200 hours together in training, there are a few outside commitments:

    • Creating your final class (there is time in class to work on this but you will still need time on your own)
    • Submitting your class (online) to the lead teacher for feedback
    • Preparing a 15 minute presentation on a topic of your choice
    • Complete two required readings by the end of training

You are also encouraged to maintain a regular yoga practice outside of training days to support your growth.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • This training is for anyone who feels called to deepen their yoga practice—whether you dream of teaching or simply want to immerse yourself in yoga’s philosophy, movement, and wisdom for personal growth. A 200-hour training is the starting point on the path of teaching yoga—it gives you the essential tools, knowledge, and confidence to begin. Think of it as the tip of the iceberg: a strong foundation that opens the door to a lifetime of practice, learning, and growth.

  • This training focuses on Vinyasa yoga with roots in the Ashtanga Vinyasa system, blending steady, foundational practices with creative, flowing sequences. You will also explore pranayama (breath work), meditation, yoga philosophy, anatomy, and intelligent sequencing.

  • Training is a balanced blend of practice, study, and reflection designed to build a strong foundation for your practice and teaching journey. You will learn:
    • Yoga history, philosophy, and ethics
    • Applied anatomy, physiology, and the subtle body
    • Functional alignment principles
    • Intelligent sequencing
    • Breath work
    • Meditation (with an emphasis on Shamatha meditation)
    • Specialty modules — introduction to teaching beginners, prenatal, yin, and other specialized populations.
    • Professional teaching skills and practical tools for building a sustainable and authentic teaching path.

  • Through exploring yogic philosophy in depth, you will learn how to create intentional and well-rounded classes that reflect your own voice and experiences. By grounding yourself in the principles of the Vinyasa system, you will develop the confidence to turn inward, access your creative power, and teach with authenticity, intelligence, and inspiration. Our approach weaves together ancient teachings and modern science, encouraging you to honor your body’s wisdom while cultivating a practice rooted in inquiry and reflection. This training is not only about learning to teach—it’s about transforming how you relate to yourself, your practice, and your community.

  • The best way is to experience my teaching firsthand. You’re encouraged to take a class with me to see if my style resonates with you. If you attend an info session or reach out directly, I will provide a code for a $13 drop-in class with me at Bluebird Sky Yoga.

  • Not at all. Many students take this training to enrich their own lives and practice. Teaching is only one way to share yoga—this program supports you in finding how yoga lives in your life.

  • You do not need to be an advanced practitioner—what matters most is curiosity and commitment. However, a regular yoga practice of at least 6–12 months is recommended, because this provides a foundation of familiarity with the postures, breathwork, and the culture of yoga.

Having this baseline allows you to fully engage with the training material without feeling overwhelmed, and it ensures that the focus can be on deepening your understanding—both intellectually and experientially—rather than just learning yoga for the very first time. Remember, yoga teacher training is not only about postures; it’s about exploring philosophy, anatomy, teaching skills, and self-inquiry.

  • This training is primarily in person, with virtual components. Each week during the weekday we meet for 3 hours on Zoom. These sessions will be recorded and shared within 48 hours for you to rewatch. Weekend sessions are in person at Bluebird Sky Yoga, and some modules will be recorded.

  • Absolutely. Maintaining your personal practice is an important part of the training. On non-training days, you’re encouraged to continue practicing on your own and by attending classes (anywhere) to help integrate what you’re learning.

All trainees will have free access to the Bluebird Sky Yoga Virtual Library for the duration of the training. A discounted rate for the 10-class pass is available for students who are not currently Bluebird Sky Yoga members, so you can maintain a regular practice throughout the program.

  • In order to graduate, 100% attendance is required. Please see Schedule & Commitment for details.

  • Yes. Upon successful completion of the program, you will graduate with a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training certificate recognized by Yoga Alliance. This certification qualifies you to register as a RYT-200 (Registered Yoga Teacher) with Yoga Alliance and teach yoga classes at studios, gyms, community centers, wellness programs, and online—both in the U.S. and internationally. Beyond formal teaching opportunities, the skills you gain will also support you in bringing yoga into your personal practice, your community, or any professional setting where mindfulness and movement are valuable.

  • We are committed to supporting you beyond the 200 hours of training. For the first six months after graduation, you’ll be invited to participate in practice teaching opportunities at the studio, offering donation-based classes to benefit a cause of your choice. This gives you a safe and supportive space to refine your teaching skills while making a positive impact in the community.

As the lead teacher, I’ll remain available to answer your questions, offer guidance, and share opportunities I hear about for teachers in the area. Our goal is to help you step into teaching with confidence and ongoing support.
